Gigi's QA

1 Have you got Epilepsy?
Yes, I have Epilepsy
2 When were you first diagnosed?
I was diagnosed aged about nine subsequent to 2 or 3 major szs at school.
3 What type of Epilepsy do you have?
Generalised tonic-clonic. As a child, had quite a lot of absence seizures but this was not picked up until some years later when I got my official diagnosis.
4a What medication do you currently take?
Since 1997 I have been on Lamotrigine (Lamictal), at the moment 350mg daily -- 200mg morning 150mg at night. This is doing an excellent job of keeping me under control. Unlike my husband.
4b What other medication have you taken in the past to control your Epilepsy?
Now you're asking, hmm.. Zarontin with phenobarb, Phenytoin, sodium valproate (Epilim). I can't remember doses for the early ones but the Epilim ended up about 400mg a day --I think. They tried me on 1500 initially and I turned into a zombie couch potato!
5 Any other info you want to share?
My younger brother also suffers from E which started in his teens. My mother is convinced we both started because of a bad reaction to our whooping cough jabs but there is no firm evidence of this. I have a child with a language/understanding disorder but there is no evidence either that this is connected with my meds or my condition.
